A Fish for Elijah

I don't know what it is about this apartment that kills fish. We're thinking that it might be the water, but we're just not sure. It's really sad how many fish we've been through. It might even be more pathetic, since fish should be easy pets. But the fish that Elijah won from the carnival died. That's the 11th fish that has died just this year, and we're not even counting the two crabs we had. The fish died Monday and when Elijah saw it he just thought it was sleeping. The next day when he couldn't find his fish, he was really upset and asked where it went. Jed broke the news to him and Elijah started crying and telling us "fish sleeping, fish not dead". It was really tragic to watch him. But after awhile he came to terms with the fact that his fish was gone. So the next day he told me I needed to get a "new fish for Elijah. Elijah needs a new fish." ( I love when he refers to himself by name :D) He continued asking for a new fish. We didn't really want to do it just because of our run with them. But he didn't let up.

So the next night we took him to the pet store and he ran immediately over to the tanks of fish. He was so happy. He loved looking at all the different fish and colors and sizes. We let him look and he found a fish that he wanted. It was big and black. He shoved me to the tank and told me to get it. It was so cute how excited and determined he was. But we were a bit weary so we showed him some Beta fish that are supposed to last. He picked one out along with a snail. He even got to pick out a new tank and a 'toy' for them. Elijah loves his new fish!

This is Peter the Fish. (He got his name because Elijah was Peter Pan for Halloween and that's what we named the other fish)

****UPDATE****
After being with us exactly one month, Peter the Fish has left us for the great big fish tank in the sky. He made one little boy extremely happy for a month. He'll be missed.

  1. We had a beta that looked just like that (Max), he lasted for about a year and a half, so here's hoping that your lasts as long!
