Another Month Down and One More To Go

Another month down, and a little less than a month til Jed's back! I'm so excited that I have pretty much 3 more weeks and I get to see Jed.

Jed has been so busy but he's gotten more privileges... the only one that I really care about is that we get to talk a little bit more often :) He's been passing all of his tests with at least a 94% so that's been great and has even set new records in some of his operations. This past month the upper class graduated and they got in the new class so Jed's class is the upper class now. This has helped a bit since they're not being yelled at anymore. Since they are the upper class they are in charge of yelling at the new class, thankfully Jed doesn't have the personality to be one to yell at the new recruits so instead he plays safety for those who are overwhelmed by the stressful environment. They tried to be intimidating on the first day the new recruits came so the one in charge of it had them all wear sunglasses and roll up their sleeves, which for some reason he thought would make them scarier.... They are also trying to be nicer to the new recruits so they tried to have some fun with them and dressed in random costumes to get them to laugh. One of his new jobs is getting to be the chaplain coordinator so he helps everyone get to church. He really likes this job even though it does keep him busy. As things are coming close to graduation, he's been really busy, almost more than before. Next week should be his last week of being graded so hopefully if they all do well the week after will be easier. He still has his great outlook and is confident and happy. We're just getting more and more excited that we get to see each other soon.

This past month the kids and I have spent in California. We've been very busy with something to do almost everyday and getting to see so many friends and family. We really enjoyed our time here, but we'll be leaving Monday back for Utah. Even though we've had so much fun here, we're looking forward to getting back and getting settled in again. I know Elijah also really misses his family back in Utah.
(This is going to be another long one, but at least it's not everything, since I already posted about some of our month here)

But here are some highlights of this past month in California:

I took Elijah out shooting with my brothers and a few of their friends. This was the first time I got to shoot our brand new gun Jed bought right before he left.

Uncle James helping Elijah shoot the .22

Uncle Christian showing off his outfit

We go up to the mountains and there's a creek that feeds into a river that Elijah likes to go play at. He has a little obsession with rocks. Across the stream there were blackberry bushes with the most ripe and delicious blackberries

Uncle Robert with the .22 We did have other guns (bigger guns) than the .22 but for some reason I only got pictures of everyone with only the rifle

We also go over to the Fountains in Roseville with friends and always get gelato after

Our friend Ashley and her daughter Sariah

Elijah with his friend Bella after eating their gelato

I also try to take the kids on a walk everyday around a park close to my mom's house. We would go in the morning and have a picnic breakfast. The kids had so much fun with the cute train and western themed. park

They even have a maze for the kids to go through

We celebrated my mom's birthday with dinner and family. This is Jed's favorite dish. It's a filet oscar which is a filet minon with a crab cake on top and asparagus with a bearnaise sauce over it. I also made garlic mushroom mashed potatoes and bacon maple carrots.

I made my mom's birthday cake too. It was an ice cream cake since most of my family won't eat cake any other way. She requested it to at least be a raspberry chocolate cake so I made a dark chocolate cake with a raspberry ganash filled with a berry sherbet and raspberry jam.

I bought Elijah his Halloween costume because I found it for $7. I kept asking him what he wanted to be and he kept saying he wanted to be a giraffe (random!) but can't argue with $7 for a costume :) I'm going to make Chloe's costume and she's going to be an ostrich (I'm really excited about her costume but that will be another post)

Elijah also started joyschool while we were here. He had so much fun because it's with some of his friends from our old ward. It was nice for him to get to play with them twice a week and also get him prepped to start preschool next month. This is him on his first day

Since Elijah's class is in Sacramento and from 9:30-12 so I've been finding things to do around town. It's been really nice to have some one on one time with just Chloe. She's a handful but it's been so much fun to spend time with her. I try to take her to the park while we're waiting for Elijah.

 Her favorite is the slide.

We all got haircuts too. This was Chloe's first haircut we had to bribe her with a sucker so she would hold still.

I also got a perm (yes, it's so 90's but it makes my prep time in the morning so much faster)

If you didn't know this... I love October! It's my favorite month because of all the fun things to do. I was really excited that the corn maze in Dixon opened early while I was still here, so I got some friends together to go.

Here are our fearless leaders: Justin and Kate

My brother and his cute wife Kayla

We also did this at night (and didn't think to bring flashlights... we survived using my phone)

Here's the map that they gave us and we had to navigate our way through

And into the corn we went

Bishop's Pumpkin Patch in Wheatland also opened up the week before we leave for Utah so I had to take the kids. This place is so much fun and they have tons of free things so it cost hardly anything at all to go.

(The kids are watching a singing chicken show)

This little guy just jumped right up and unfortunately scared Chloe off from wanting to pet the goats.

She watched from a safe distance

I let Elijah pick out one small pumpkin to take home

This was Chloe's favorite thing to ride on. She kept saying "Wheeeeee!" and tried to sing a "done da da done da done da da" so cute!

I also made cupcakes for a friend's daughter's birthday. Here are my little helpers at work:
Elijah is my mixer
 and Chloe is my taster

Here are the cupcakes on display.

The flower ones were dark chocolate with caramel centers covered with ganash and the flowers were a salted caramel buttercream. The other ones were coconut cupcakes with a chocolate almond buttercream topped with a fondant circle and ganash piping

We've had a fun time but we're looking forward to getting back and getting ready for Jed to come home.
